Family Relations

Over the summer of 2011 and the next couple of months my family worked on putting together one large family tree. The earliest we traced back to was around the 5th century AD. We ran into many famous historical figures who we have learned about this year, and a lot that we haven’t
For one, we are related to George Calvert. George Calvert (also known as Lord Baltimore) and his son Cecil together founded the colony of Maryland, which is where we come from. George got the grant for a plot of land in the New World, but died before he could settle it. His son Cecil took over the charter and colonized Maryland for himself.

We also discovered that we are related to King Henry VIII. Henry, over his lifetime, had 6 wives and 3 children. He was one of the earliest Tutors, which was a royal family that ruled in England in the 15th and 16th century. One of his children, Elizabeth I, was one of the most well-known rulers of England. Henry also instigated the English Reformation, which was the change of England from Catholicism to Protestantism.

  1. Ryan, its pretty cool that you are related to someone we spent a lot of time learning about. I wish that you had gone into more detail about Henry VIII and what he did along with who George Cecil is and what he accomplished (besides founding Maryland) :)

  2. It must be very interesting to learn these things about your past. People would be surprised to know who they are actually related to. Directly regarding your post, a little more information may have helped show how important some of these people really are.
