12 Years A Slave

12 Years A slave is a very repulsive and vulgar movie. There are many horrible scenes showing the life slaves lived. Even though it was very hard to watch at times you have to realize that it is true and it tells the real story about what this slave and many others went through at this time. The mans name is Solomon Northup and he is a very wealthy man from the north with a family. But he is later drugged and taken to a slave trader and is bought into slavery and suffers 12 years of awful slavery in which many others did too. But during his time there he keeps a journal and later writes a book that was published in 1853 about his time as a slave.

This movie reminds me of what we are learning in class for so many reasons. Obviously it reminds me of first off slavery because that is what we are learning about now in class. Also they connect because of how many people at this time were going through the same thing solomon was, slavery. This is an awful thing and sadly it still is going on in the world we live in today. You would think it would be all gone by now but it isn't because still in places all over the world there is illegal slavery going on. Hopefully someday this will come to an end and it will never return.

This book relates a lot to what we learn in class and I think it is one of the best movies that portrays the real life slavery was like. I still think it is a very hard movie to watch but it is good to understand Americas history and what it was like for African Americans just 150 years ago.

  1. Hi Christian, I thought your blog post does a really good job relating 12 years a slave to the history unit. I can connect with you in the fact that it reminds you of class for so many reasons. I also agree with you because it is hard to watch it. Movies like this can make you really sad hearing about their stories ad how hard it was for them. What I think you could do differently next time is write a little longer so you can make your point across even stronger. Overall I think you did a very good job connecting this movie to class.
