One If By Land, Two If By Sea

In the year 1775, Robert Newman and Vestryman Capt. John Pulling, Jr. climbed the steeple of the Old North Church in Boston. They held up two lanterns as a signal from Paul Revere, warning everyone that the British were coming by sea across the Charles River and not by land. This event happened on April 18th. It was the start of the American Revolution.

The Old North Church is known as Boston's oldest surviving church and most visited historical site. A few years ago I visited the Old North Church. It's such a beautiful church. It's very interesting how the lanterns representing "One if by land, Two if by sea" were held at the top of that steeple. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the high ceiling and the large pipe organ on the balcony. It's a very old church but everything in it is so beautiful. I want to go back soon because it was such an amazing experience and somewhere every Bostonian should visit.
