The preservation of the "Dark Age's" Knowledge.

Over this past summer, My family took a vacation to the country of Ireland this past summer, and besides to lush landscape, Ireland also offers rich history. During the time of the dark ages, when events such as the black plague swept over Europe, Ireland was affected less by these diseases. But still during all the destruction, and the loss of almost all of the Dark ages recorded knowledge, some of it was saved.

While there was not very much recorded knowledge in this time, there still was knowledge. Almost all of this information would have been lost. However, some some of the information was saved. Monks living on or near Ireland made sure of it. They kept the recorded knowledge they had safe, to be rediscovered if, if the monks died, by the surviving people. One of the most notable of all information saved was the book of Kells, a book containing the 4 gospels, in Latin, of the new testament. Above this paragraph is a picture of one of the pages in the book of Kells.

This reminded me of our Renaissance unit. We were told that most of the information from the dark ages was lost, but some people knew that they should protect it. This could help form a basic knowledge people had prior and during the dark ages.

This is a really cool topic to write about. Although we didn't discuss this topic much in class, you still managed to write an extensive amount on the subject, and its connection to your trip to Ireland. I was very impressed with your knowledge of the monks of the Dark Ages and the religious writings of that era, especially the book of Kells. The suggestion I would make is to not have quite as many sentences and make the smaller amount of sentences longer. I felt as if each thought was disconnected, which is good for dramatic effect, but can make writing a little less fluid. Overall, though, excellent job.

  2. This is an interesting topic to write about. Not much was said about the lack of info from this time (possibly because of a lack of information) but there was still a decent amount said here. Ireland is an interesting area of the world, especially during this time period. The method of the delivery of the information wasn't the best, but other than that this is a great project.
