The Past Again?

Based on The Legend series by Marie Lu.

One of my absolute favorite series is the Legend series by Marie Lu.  It’s compiled of three actions paced-jaw dropping dystopian adventures that take place far into the mysterious future!  Basically America is divided in two; the Colonies and the Republic.  The colonies cover eastern America while the Republicans cover the western portion of America.
Republic and Colonies Map
The governments of the Republic and the Colonies greatly differ. The Republic is a strict Martial Law Dictatorship, whereas the Colonies are a Corporate-Owned State.  The leaders of the two chunks that make up post America fight for control over each other.  Political civil wars between the Republic and the Colonies break out containing rebellions and a fight for freedom.
Huguenots vs. Catholics Religious Wars

After learning about Absolutism in France, I recognized a lot of similarities between the world of Legend and the 1500s.  Beginning in the 1560’s, France faced religious civil wars between Catholics and Huguenots.  Both are fighting for religious dominance and get caught in between battles and fights.  The government of France at the time though was leadership of Kings who believed in Absolutism and Divine Right.

Both the story of Legend and the wars that occurred in the 1500's between the Huguenots and the Catholics have similarities and differences.  They both had different systems of governments but ended up with the same problems; a fight over power whether political or religious.
