The title of the article I read was "Modern day slavery persists the world over." It was found on the Los Angeles Times' website. Accessed by computer. URL: http://articles.latimes.com/2013/oct/17/world/la-fg-global-slavery-20131018
This article talks about how slavery still persists around the world today. Slavery is really big in eastern countries. India has the greatest amount of slaves in their country. India actually has more than any other country in the world, with China and Pakistan following behind India. There are a total of 28.9 million slaves around the world and India has almost half them with a total of 13.9. Modern day slavery is extremely bad, and there should be a way to abolish it.
What is also extremely unfortunate is the fact that the girls going into slavery are forced to work long hours of cleaning and cooking without pay or rest. The only people getting paid are the ones that place the girls into slavery. The only thing that the girls get in return is abuse, whether that be sexually, mentally or physically.
All ties are cut with the girls family, the girls don't speak Hindu, don't have money or a way out of slavery. Families that have their children taken are told that their kid will come back with a lot of money. Most times, the kids do not even comeback, but if they do, they return with little to no money.
I can connect this article to class because we did a whole unit on modern day slavery. We learned about how modern day slavery still exists and that are 28.9 million people in bondage. We also talked about ways to stop modern day slavery. Some of the ways we learned about were to tell people about how slavery still exists, how bad it is and to contact people if you see slavery happening anywhere.
Overall I thought this article was a good read because it gave a real life perspective on how bad modern day slavery still is. That it is happening in places that we don't even know about. Just because you don't see slavery that does not mean that it doesn't exist. There are many different types of slaves. They could be making shirts or they could be cooking and cleaning for a rich family that doesn't pay them. What do you think should be done about this international problem? Somebody needs to help these people because they can't help themselves.

Wow, your post was very powerful. It really tells us how horrifying slavery is and that it is still going on today which many people don't even know about! I also like how you backed it up with an interesting picture. I can really see how this relates to class. Overall great job and keep it up!
